The Intentional Theatre
First Annual International Short Play Festival - 2006

In "The First Fireworks", by Alex Broun of St Kilda, Australia, on New Year’s Eve for the last twenty years Dawn has brought her daughter Helen to their own secret place high on a hill to watch the midnight fireworks. But tonight is the last time they will come. It is time for mother and daughter to say goodbye.

But before that, memories will be relived, secrets revealed, and tears shed for what was, what is, and what is yet to be, as only a mother and daughter can understand.

About the Play

Helen (Lura Hepler, left) and Dawn (Jean DeGrooth, right) reminisce about a special night that only they have shared until recently.  It is a tradition that mother hands down to daughter and.... hopes she will pass along to another generation.

About the Actors

Lura Helper teaches Kindergarten.  She attended UConn School of Drama many years ago, and enjoys acting in her spare time.  Lura made her first appearance on the Intentional Theatre stage with the Festival.

Jean De Grooth has been active in community and professional theater since sometime in the 1900's although she demures to reveal the exact year. She was seen most recently as Louise in Always, Patsy Cline.  This was Jean's first appearance with the Intentional Theatre.
